For January’s IndieWeb Book Club, I’ve chosen The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club by Peter Hook. I first listened to this as an audiobook a few years ago, and as it includes parts of Factory Records, New Order, the Madchester scene, and Indie culture in general, along with helping to kickstart the modern club scene in the UK. There are several fights, a multitude of financal problems and various other topics included along the way, including various drug addiction issues, gang violence, and legal battles.
As the UK indie scene, and the likes of Factory Records and music in general has been a common topic at several HWCs, it made sense to me that my pick in some way reflected that.
As usual, if you would like to take part, feel free to grab a copy from whichever outlet (in a perfect world, your local independent bookshop) you tend to get books from, and write it about it on your site.
To be included in the end of month roundup, either ping me a web mention or send me an email with a link to your post.
